Fountain Bros Hit So Cal

Jordan headed back with Greg to San Diego yesterday. He will be there for the next week.
They are going skate as many spots as possible. Day one Clairemont Y with Michael Early owner of Pool King. Then on to another park with lights so they could do some night skating.
Park 2 had a huge spine that reminded Jordan of the old World Wize days.
I will let you know how day 2 shakes out.
Day 2 :Encinitas Y, McGills Skate Shop, then back to the park with the killer spine.
Day 3 :Vans at the Block then met up with good friend Ray. Ray took G and J to a private back yard ramp/bowl. Going around to skate spots with Ray is like having the editor of The Rolling Stone taking you to a concert.
Day 4,5,6 skating, skating, yes more skating.

Chino and the Vans Warehouse

Today started early. I wanted to get some shots at Chino. They were calling for a temp of 100 by 1pm so we were in and out by noon. A quick stop at K1 Karts and then off to Vans warehouse.
They have a very nice ramp. It must be a requirement for Vans employees to skate. While we were there several of the guys from Vans took breaks from their workday getting in a session here and there. They all ripped!

Pro Tec Pool Party

The folks over at Pro-Tec set Greg up with some tickets for the Pro-Tec Pool Party. So I jumped on a plane and here I am.
This is one of the biggest baddest bowl events known to man. It is held at the combi bowl at Vans in Orange, CA. This is one bad to the bone bowl. All the big names will be there. Bucky, Omar, Bob, Benji, and some of the Masters: Cab, Mountain, Peters, Miller and many many more.
We will be posting updates, so check back. By the way I just snagged a fisheye, check out some of the latest shots.

The skating was top notch. We have traveled to many events and this one rivals the best.
The trade show and all of the activity surrounding the event made it non stop action.
As always Mark, Steve, and the gang from 3rd Lair went out of their way to be great hosts. We hope to go back next year.

A week in LA

Greg spent the week in LA. The first part of the week he was hanging with his friends at KR3W.
They skated some local spots and managed to get into a couple of the warehouse skateparks owned by some of the larger clothing and shoe companies.
Later in the week Greg met with our favorite photographer Ray Zimmerman. The next couple of days MRZ took Greg around to some spots that he had never skated before. They met with a couple Pros and had a great time and some great sessions. We can't wait to see what MRZ came up with for photos.
Greg is back now in San Diego heading to Clairmonte today.

Road Trip 08

We are on our way to San Diego. This trip we are taking our time enjoying some killer skate spots.
First stop Amarillo TX ,Grindline park. Day 2 we are meeting up with our friend Thad in Albuquerque NM. He is taking us to the ditches and the new cement park.
Day 3 Phoenix. Check back for up dates and photos.

UPDATE
Albuquerque was rained out for skating but we did get to see Thad. He showed us his town. Looks like they have a great skate scene. We hope to make it back this way sometime.
We made it to Phoenix late last night after driving through a nasty blizzard. We had to drive all the way to AZ to get in a snow storm, we could have stayed home for that.
Raining in Phoenix this AM should clear off later. Check back for some photos late tonight.

UPDATE
The rain continued so the only skating was a game of SKATE with some locals. We did find a grass roots skateboard shop. Underground (UBF) in Apache Junction. Nice folks and some very cool artwork hanging around.
Today NO RAIN!!!! we will keep you posted on how that goes.

UPDATE
Today started off a little rough. The first two parks we stopped at were closed due to water in the park. The 3rd park was in Tempe. It was open and it was great! Greg said it was a very creative set up and had good flow.
We then went to the Phoenix park. We ended the night with a session under the lights in Apache Junction.
On to Cali. Check the photos and keep checking back for updates.

UPDATE
We are in Palm Springs today. $12.00 for a cheese burger? Oh well, nice skate park.

UPDATE
We made it!
On the way in from PS we stopped at the Vans park in Orange. After about 4 hours of skating we headed south down the 5 to San Diego. I must say the Escort did a great job getting us here, at a couple of stops 40 MPG.
Today we are getting dialed in on the new surroundings and then a late session at the Y Encinitas.

UPDATE
Coronado today, Etnies tomorrow. The weather is warm and sunny. The skateparks are hot.

UPDATE
Met up with JT and his crew today. We had a great time catching up. Headed up the 5 to Lake Forest. Etnies was packed. Greg said it was like a game of Frogger skating around the groms.
Fun session in the skull bowl. No clue what is on for tomorrow.

UPDATE
Clairemont was the stop today.
The bowl is being reworked so we were not able to skate it. Greg got in a few runs on the vert ramp and then we headed back back to JT's for a BBQ. The temp is 72.

The road trip comes to an end. We had a great time. I am back in the sub zero weather and Greg is in SoCal skating.

Big Contest Weekend

We traveled to 3rd Lair for our 4th annual Midwest Bowlriders Contest. This has been one of our favorite comps. MWBR are a good group and the 3rd Lair is one of our favorite places to visit.
G and J both enter the advanced division. Jordan took 9th and Greg finished 2nd.
While we were there, the Edge held it's annual street contest, along with Phil and his gang from Precision Skateboard Shop.
We are please to announce The Edge Team did great! In advanced: Pat place 1st and Lloyd 2nd.

10/09/2007

NINJA BEARINGS

Greg met with the owner of Ninja Bearings at ASR in Sept, he asked Greg if he would try a set of Ninja bearings. Greg said, "sure". He handed G a set of Apex 3. Greg looked at them thinking this is going to be a step down from my ceramics. He changed out one wheel and gave both the 3's and the ceramics a good hard spin. The Ninjas kept spinning long after the ceramics stopped.
But the real test was skating Clairmont. A couple runs on the vert ramp, a session with some friends in the bowl and closing down the park on the street course proved Ninja to be a very high quality product.
No they are not cheap, not made cheap or sold cheap.Yes! you do get what you pay for.
You can find Ninja Bearings at these fine skate shops: Edge in Lincoln and at BC in Omaha.

We would like to thank Ninja for the flow.

ASR 2007

We just returned from San Diego where we attended the ASR show.
Greg skated all but the last demo. Jim Bell did the ramp again this year with some cool additions. 10 foot vert section was one of the nice changes.
We had the chance to meet some new folks and get together with some old friends.
One of the highlights was meeting Christian Hosoi. Christian had some very important words for Greg. Words of encouragement and advice on staying strong in his faith.
Our good friend Ray Zimmerman managed to get around on his injured ankle taking some killer shots of Greg at Clairmont.
Some more exciting news on our trip to follow.

8/15/2007

Vans Warped Tour

We just returned from The Warped Tour. Our first stop was
St Louis. The skating was hot! It could have been the 100 temp. We met up with Motto team rider Dakota White. Dakota took fifth place. at age 9 that is GREAT! Greg took second place and a nice cash prize.
We then headed to Kansas City for the next Warped stop. Greg placed first and won a bundle of cash.
The music for the jam contests was none other than Mike V's new band Revolution Mother.
Mike got a session in on the ramp after his last set.
Rick Thorn brought his bike and showed his no holds bar style of BMX.
All in all a couple of killer days. Thanks to Vans and everyone involved.

Top skaters from Iowa and Nebraska showed up to win the CASH and some very sick trophies.
4 divisions. Groms, Intermediate, and Advanced. The contest ended with the Old School dudes throwing down to win the one of a kind Hosoi Deck trophy. 2, two minute runs added together to total the best score. Two minute runs are LONG, they had to give some oxygen to a couple skaters.
In the advanced class only 1 point separated first and second place.
Jordan took home cash and a second place trophy. Greg snagged the first place trophy and a nice chunk of change (the green kind).
Thanks to all the sponsors for a full day of skating.

DAMN AM 2007

Third Lair hosted for the 5th year the DAMN AM, a national level AM contest with skaters from Canada to Florida from East Coast to West Coast. Last night was the infamous Bowl Jam. Ryan from Skatepark of Tampa said "this was the sickest by far". Here is how it went down, 2 heats, each skater two 45 sec runs deciding the top ten qualifiers to throw down in the jam.
Greg made the cut qualifying 5th. The next 15 minutes equaled a F5 tornado with the same devastating aftermath. After some blood, sweat, and yes tears, it was over. Greg took 5th overall.
Jordan finished a strong 13. Conan nailed down 15th. Check out our 3rd Lair link for all the standings.

6/02/2007

Skate a demo with sunshine and temps hitting 90 or shoveling the drive with Jordan.
Thanks Dave for thinking of me.

2/20/2007

Road Warrior

We got a call late last night from our good friend, Dave Nelson.
Dave asked Greg if he was available to do a demo this weekend.
Where might this demo be? McAllen TX. 21 hours straight south. After checking the weather map and seeing a temp of 87 for Saturdays demo, Greg quickly said "
"I'm In!!.
Please pray for safe travel. We will be posting updates on the trip.

A Day with Ray

Day 3 of our SoCal trip had us meet up with Ray Zimmerman of Concrete Disciples fame. In the recent Skateboard Mag Ray was recognized as one of the top skate photographers. We met up with Ray at Chino, with one wild session going down. Not even 30 minutes in, Greg had a full speed collision with one of the locals making the whole crowd groan in sympathetic pain. Shortly after that G managed to nail a nice stalefish over the hip which brought a little smile to Ray's face. From there we moved on to Montclair, with the smoothest cement terrain known to man. It was a great session with big airs and smith grinds. We even avoided a $300.00 ticket from 5-0 by Greg sliding on his elbow pads. We finished the day with a gorgeous California sunset for the back drop of the last session in Corona. Ray is going to allow us to post a few of the pictures on our site soon;but for the full blown photo session and article, check out www.concretedisciples.com. We'd like to thank Ray for the time he spent with us. Here is a man with a tremendous amount of integrity and sincerity, sometimes hard to find in the industry and in life.

KREW

Day two we found ourselves in L.A. at the KREW Warehouse. Jesse from KREW gave us the okay to swing by and check out their indoor skatepark. Greg and Jordan were surprised at the size. It is a nice set up!
For the first hour the Pool King team had the park to themselves. J.T., Michael, G,and J.
Lunch hour hit and the park quickly filled up with the folks from Krew.
Here is the reason why this company is so in touch with this market. THEY ARE ALL SKATERS! Jesse gave Greg some major league flo, setting him up with a Krew wardrobe. We definitely want to visit Jesse and Krew when we come back to CA and we want them to know they can come check out the Omaha skate scene anytime.

We are glad to be a small part of a grass roots skate company like POOL KING.

November update

November has been a very busy month.
Yesterday, Edge hosted a clinic and contest for the groms. We have seen the future of skating in the Midwest. It looks bright. Note to the groms:
It is all about time on the board. Keep it up and we will see some bigger air on the next one.
Greg traveled to San Diego last week to get some skating in. J.T. (Pool King Team Manager) met G at the airport and the skating started right away, 5 days of sunshine and new terrain to try out.
J.T. was a great host as always. He even arranged a photo shoot by none other than MRZ, Ray Zimmerman. Ray has a portfolio of skaters so large that it would take the Govinator himself to carry it. We are still awaiting the shots from that day and hope to share a few of them with you.
Thank you Ray!
Nolan Johnson of Team Goon showed up to skate. Nolan had just skated the GVR Pro pool comp. One of the parks on the list to hit was the Vans at Orange County. J.T. had managed to steath in a video camera to get some of the skating down. Vans has banned cameras in the park. We are glad he did, he managed to get a shot of Greg's biggest air to date. J.T. thinks it was over 12' check out the video.

2006 Midwest Bowl Riders Contest

Wow! It just gets better and better each year. The level of skating in each division has jumped noticeably. Canada was even represented by Adam Hopkins one mean ripper.
Dakota White ran away with the intermediate division taking first place, next year you skate with the big dogs!
Expert division shook out like this:
Character team skater Mighty Mike Owens third,
skating for Pool King Greg Fountain took second,
and Bacon boards very own Popcorn takes first.
You could'nt have taken him off his board even with a strong shove.
A crowd favorite was Conan skating on a Pool King Pirate board .

Props go to the Third Lair, what a great vibe the shop and park have. They are all very cool, helping the groms and going out of their way to make everyone feel welcome. This event would not go down with out Glen and his group. MWBR keeping the action moving giving all the skaters a chance to show their stuff.

Note:We vote our man Lucas as most improved skater, keep going we dig watching you skate.

Check out the photos.

ASR San Diego 2006

Over 20,000 folks showed up for the 3 day event held in beautiful downtown San Diego.

Pool King Skate Board Company was kind enough to invite Greg out to represent them in the skate demo held on the Jim Bell 8 foot mini ramp in the convention center. The guys running the demo were Ryan and Brian of Skate park of Tampa fame. Never a dull moment with them on the microphone!

We were privileged to participate in the Jay Adams book kick off party hosted by Concrete Wave "100% Skateboarding magazine" and Pool King.
The book features many never seen photos of Jay taken by his step-father, Kent Sherwood.
Kent was at the party signing books and visiting with all the guests.
You can only imagine who was in attendance! Yes, some of the founding fathers of skating! We managed to get some photos that we will treasure forever.
All the proceeds from book sales will go to Jay's family.

TRACKER TRUCKS

We would like to thank Buddy Carr of Tracker Trucks for putting Greg on the Team.
Tracker Skateboard Trucks - founded in 1975 - were the first trucks designed specifically for skateboarding. More than thirty years ago the Tracker engineers based their original design on performance, reliability, and durability. Today those three words continue to be the driving force of Tracker Trucks. Over the years, the original Tracker design has been copied by our competitors many times. Renamed and re-packaged, they all fall short in comparison to today's legendary Tracker Skateboard Truck. If dependability, performance and a long standing reputation for quality products is what you want, go with Tracker...trucks you can trust since 1975.
Some of the skater on the team:

Pool King Skateboards

Pool King Skateboards have been known for making some of the finest skateboards. They use only the best materials available. And they put these rock'in boards together in San Diego, CA.
Recently, owner, Michael Early called Greg and asked him if he and his brother, Jordan, would be interested in skating for Pool King. Greg had the chance to skate with some Pool King team members while at the Tampa Am and thought they were very cool.
So he said yes and that started the ball rolling.
After researching some shapes and sizes, they came up with the board that G and J are now skating.
Pool King's team captain is none other than ledgendary pro skater Jeff Tatum. You will get to see more on Jeff as he is to be our next skater spot light.
Thank you Pool King for supporting the Fountain Brothers. We look forward to traveling to So.Cal and skating with you soon.

The Last Contest for Grinds

Grinds held the last contest before they close. The turn out was so big they had to turn skaters away at the door. It was the largest advanced class Grinds had ever seen. Greg finished first, Bruce second, and Pat nailed down third. Katy from Lincoln took home first in intermediate.
In the bowl jam everyone in advanced killed it. They all laid down almost flawless runs. Greg first, Pat second, and Jordan third.
We will all be sorry to see Grinds close. We will have great memories.

The folks from Skate Park of Tampa know how to throw down one great contest.
With close to 300 total, combining street with vert,
it was ran like a fine oiled machine.

We were treated to the best AM skateboarding around.
There were skaters representing the globe from Australia, England, Brazil, and Colombia to name a few.
It seemed like every state was represented as well.
Check out Tampa's web site for all the details. Some of the highlights from the trip;
bowl jams every time you turned around,
getting to know the skaters and talking with the locals.
We hit Orlando skating the Vans and downtown. While we were skating the bowl in downtown Orlando, none other than Lance Mountain shows up to skate.

From the 3rd Lair web site

"The advanced division was pretty gnarly. People came in from all over the Midwest to get their shred on, with crews coming from Iowa and even Kentucky. After the initial runs were taken, the Slayer was put on for the remainder of the contest, which was a jam format. What ensued was a storm of skateboarding awesomeness. If you’ve never seen a bowl jam go down, you gotta come next year. You get near collisions, very close calls, and some really good skateboarding too. Right before the jam turned into a category 5 snake sesh, London Luke chilled everyone out by skunk flipping right into the wall in the deep end and splitting his eye open. Don’t worry, after a visit to Dr. (Brian) Perry and some New Skin, he was fine. The momentary break in the action chilled everyone out, and what came after was a great session. Greg Fountain found himself in a very respectable 5th place. Greg skates really fast, loves leopard printed pads, and can no footed frontside air like it’s none of your business."

Answer to prayer

Today's fund raiser for the Tommy Craft Skate Center was an unbelievable event.
The only day we've had without rain for quite some time. We had over 1000 riders and no injures or mishaps. To say it was a success would been an understatement.
The lady that spear-heads this organization is Roz Fahey "The Poker Run Queen".
She is truly something. The bikers who won the poker hand gave half back to the charity. The biker who won the 50/50 drawing gave it all back. In both cases it was several hundred dollars. Bikers Against Youth Violence is something that is very close to their hearts.
We are well on our way to make this vision a reality.

Thank you to all the folks involved.
